Here is, officially, our first continent study. It has been such a long time recollecting things for our Continent boxes and Pinky has had the opportunity to explore them whenever she feels like. However, I wanted to go over each continent with her. You know, nothing elaborated just something accord to my 4 years old interest.
Why did we start with Africa and not with North America? Well, I found that the best stimulus for us (setting up the learning material-(Me) and showing some interest about the topic (Pinky)) was following our daily life experiences.
A few weeks ago our beloved Daddy traveled to Africa (so lucky!). And, that was the best opportunity for us to know:
Where in the world is Daddy????
This unit is a continuation of the other Geography topics we have been studying so far.
- The world: Continents
- Compass rose
- Biomes or Animal Habitats
- Landforms
- Flags of the world
- Traditional clothing around the world
- Me on the map
Where is Africa?
Push pin the Continents activity she did at school. Here’s a post from How we Montessori showing the same kind of work her son did at school with the Australia map. Aren’t they A.M.A.Z.I.N.G???
Africa Biomes map
Desert, rainforest, grassland
Animals of Africa
Dot paint an Africa map and add stickers (Pinky’s favorite activity!)
African animals handprint-footprint Art
Just adorable!!! This is a Mommy-daughter activity. I managed to get my hands DIRTY, too!
You will need a big cardboard paper, paint, paper towels (LOTS OF THEM!), paintbrushes, water, Africa map for reference and handprint-footprint animals templates to follow. This was a huge project (fun and cute but huge for Pinky). We did it just one night but it is better is you divided into 2 days if you have a young child or you will need the whole family extremities! LOL
Let the child paint the inside of Africa green and the water blue. Then, paint your hands and/or feet. We did it one at the time, alternating them and washing constantly to minimize the mess.
Memory game: Animals
Animals Puzzle
She did it!!!
Well, I think I will let it here!
We have been doing more and more about Africa. Just simple activities but very fun!
Isn’t Africa so fun?
