Chapter books for preschoolers: Charlotte’s web

A few months ago, we finished reading our first chapter book ever!!! It was Charlotte’s web by E.B. White and Illustrated by Garth Williams.

Her past Montessori class was reading the book, so she got back home very excited wanting to get it at the book store. I didn’t know about this book before (shame on me….or shame on my old Puerto Rican traditional school system). It was great to read the book together every night and finally watch the movies. We found two movies: one an animation, and another with persons. This helped us to compared the movies and the book. This seems an activity for older kids but I got amazed by all the details a young kid can remember.

Then we added a few hands-on-activities or Montessori-inspired lessons to go with our beloved book.

(She played with these for ages….sometimes reciting parts from the book or movie and others just using her imagination. Great way to bring a book to life!)

Sight words learning!

Just an easy and fun idea to learn sight words for those mommies that need to spare their time. We are trying to simplified our learning around here.

You will need some garden signs, paper and markers or crayons. I got mine from Target at the dollar spot.

And we ended with these:

These are a great addition to our learning room. As soon as Pinky knows these, I just change the piece of paper with another one and add new sight words. You can play with them outside at the yard, hide them, play memory, a kind of Olympic running game, or my daughter’s favorite one: mommy monkeying around/marching/dancing and shouting 123 and holding the sign around the house while Pinky follows shouting the word and moving, too. You know what I mean: Have fun, move your body, learn and make it easy (that one is mostly for mommy!)

Here is my Pinterest PRE-READING ideas board!!! There are lots of great ideas to try!

123 123 ……Happy reading!!!!! and dancing!
