Color scavenger hunt with the camera

Sometimes when we are bored, we just take the camera and started to play and discover with it…..Pinky loves the camera as much as I do!!!! Hey….it is fun to see what we shoot….

At this time we where practicing our colors in Spanish….this way she is not just recognizing the color but she has to talk to me in Spanish (without forcing it, only have fun playing!) Also, she got to use mommy’s camera…

Mommy: Can you find something *color?

Art with water guns!

Here’s an activity I did with Pinky a few weeks ago (when we had a lucky great weather weekend) to teach her about primary and secondary colors.

Marlee 34-35 mo 096

One day while shopping around at Target, I saw a bag with three little water guns in 3 colors: Red, Yellow and Blue….so, my mind got full of ideas for a dollar toy.

The most important one was teaching Pinky about primary colors and how she can get others colors (secondary) when they are mixed. Ok….for her was just a fun time…a playing time…a WATER time…and a messy time with colorful water….I think the best part is that she was learning and having fun :D

I filled my little water guns with water and added 3-4 drops of coloring food….red inside the red gun, blue inside the blue and yellow in the yellow.

Later, we grabbed two papers:

  • Fist one: Mixed blue water with yellow….we got some green spots!

  • Second one: Mixed red water with yellow…we got orange!!!

It was really fun and she was so happy mixing the water from the guns…..after she ended the activity…she just played around trying to hit some flies with the water….lolMarlee 34-35 mo 120Marlee 34-35 mo 145

What did we get from this simple (and cheap) activity?

  • Learn about colors. What I loved the most is that she was able to relation the color of the gun with the water color inside it.
  • Work those little hand muscles when using the water gun.
  • Eye-hand-object coordination…when trying to hit an object with the water on the gun. (At the end she was really good controlling her hand to wet the plants, rocks and ants around.
  • Gravidity: when you fire water up yourself….be careful because it comes down onto your face!!! lol
  • Free art exploration.
  • LOTS OF FUN around!

Colors, letters, shapes and something else!

This week we did a little bit of almost everything. The weather was a rainy one, so we stayed home looking for things to do.

  • Colors- we painted with food coloring ices our state map for a postcard swap we are participating (and I am sending them very late…oh my!)

  • Colors- we played with the color wheel and clothes pins…them we match our homemade color tablets (just paint samples from Home Depot pasted on a white foam).

  • Push pins- I found a little board on Dollar tree which is excellent for my daughter to manipulate. We did two activities with this one (first time and she loved it!) An uppercase letter A (you just need a piece of paper and a pen….trace the letter and add some HUGE dots for direction) She got really good at this and did it for more than 15 min…so it was a success!

We traced a snail, too…but we tried with some stickers later.

  • Language- Beginning sound game….this is a game that “padrino”…Pinky’s godfather gave her last time he came to visit…how did he know we were practicing these activities???…the good thing is that we love to play with this game….I love it because she can do it by herself while I am doing my stuff…..(when she try it by herself she can match most of the sounds but still have to practice some). Here is Pinky with her funny face, as always!

  • Spooning- some pom-poms but she found other activities like classify them by colors, sizes and count them in English and Spanish.

  • Math- shapes…this is an old activity from Christmas….but I love it because she can practice her shapes and build with them.

Marlee 31-32 mo 124

  • Practical life- as every week, Pinky helps mommy to things around….this week we did shopping so we were practicing some fruits/vegetable names, spices, etc…while doing the shopping…when we got back the best happened: Oh my! she saved the shopping and put everything were they belong…who thought het that?….I don’t know but I was there to enjoy it!!! Here’s Pinky in action….

We did a lot more but this post is getting too long…so I am posting them later….like our Fat Tuesdays parade, St. Patrick’s parade and our weekend with daddy!

Take care!
