While the New Year 2011 started as a promised one….it turned out a hard one so far…but not for so long, that’s sure!

On January 17, 2011 was schedule my surgery, so we were very busy looking for some one to stay those days after the surgery with Pinky….at the end, my little sister decided to come and help us out…..(another hard situation later).

I had to do some pre-op test on the 4th (which I got concern the day before when I received a call from the hospital), went on a train adventure with Pinky, a stroller, 2 bags and myself….ufff….but we got lots of fun and learning on the way!

The day after, she was asking to have a play date with her little friend Ed….that day Pinky was acting out so badly…she didn’t listen, she was running inside the apartment, throwing toys everywhere, she got many time-outs…until….she was running again, felt, and started to cry like never before…..one of those types of cry very particulars that make you feel something is really WRONG!!!…I just examined her arm, looked for a scarf, bended around her body holding her arm to her chest and drove to the ER….and after some x-rays….(don’t worry…Pinky was just fine playing around and making conversations with everybody she found and singing her ABC’s and Tinkle, tinkle little star songs aloud.)

The results: It seems she broke the lower extremity of her humerus….but they were not 100% sure….so The three Kings day instead of the celebration I was planning….I was looking for a Pediatric Orthopedic….They put a cast on her arm and she was so excited to pick up a color….PINK!

It has been one month and almost 2 weeks from that and she still have her cast since the fracture is still healing…After the Pink cast, came the Orange one….and when mommy was so happy thinking that the cast was off…..ufff…we got a Brown cast for 2 more weeks….I know is excellent that she is healing very good and that the fracture wasn’t displaced, but…it’s so hard to bath her and change her clothes….mostly with a winter weather when she needs long sleeves to keep herself warm…..

Ok….lets see it on a positive point of view….She now understands why we can’t run inside the house….she’s is so happy practicing her colors whenever she have to pick up a new color cast, I have an excuse to don’t bath her very day she behave when I have to go to my therapies because she has a boo boo and needs to do exercises, too; and she is turning so good at pretending she is a doctor, an x-ray technician and a therapist….I am her patient!…and her daddy when he’s home, yupi!

This is Pinky’s first fracture story….are there more to come?….I hope not!   But, I think that maybe she is doing what she has to do, just been a happy, busy, and curious kid!

This is me….hours before my Total Hip Replacement….just having some fun on the snow with my sister and princess at 2:30 am……oh yes!

So…at 6:30am I had to wake up, get ready, catch the train and be at the hospital’s admission department before 8:30am….Did I make it on-time?……Oh nooo!!!!

It was crazy outside in the morning, the trains were delayed, I couldn’t drive my car on the snow to the train station, so I had to walk my way thru the snow and cold….maybe 15 mins walking….for me….with snow, ice, cold, wind, it was like half an hour (lol). Ok….I made it around 10:30am….just to go back to the doctors office, get new x-rays, get back to the hospital, and didn’t have time to think about my up coming surgery, since the doctor and everybody were waiting for me for a long time….

What happened after my surgery and all the fabulous things that have been happening to us on this New Year are thoughtful experiences for new posts…

I was reading about Pre-reading activities to do with Pinky and got with a post from My Montessori Journey about this theme. It really gave me a good idea of thins I can do, some of them I was doing already without knowing exactly what I was able to get with them. Therefore, I am trying to put together a Pre-reading station with: Going togethers, Uppercase and lowercase letters matching, Opposites, Whole and half objects, and Rhyming worlds, Sequencing cards (everything that let her to go from left to right). Also, I am trying to complete my DIY Sandletters I had been doing since May last year (I know, maybe was better to buy them, but I have the material already and with my upcoming surgery and lack of movility, I'll be able to focus on them, maybe!).

So, I won't be able to post as often as I would like to do it because my surgery process and recovering...had one a few months ago and now I am a little bit afraid of the process...hope the pain this time will be none!....and I get to recover very fast...

More than a month ago, I won (I am so HAPPY) a giveaway at The activity Mom blog for a Time for Tots-The shapes learning kit! I was soooooo amazed when I received the email letting me know I have won. Since, after that I had a very busy and hard time, I didn’t have the time to do a post about the Excellent Kit!

I am so sorry about the late post, because Nicole (The activity Mom) was so efficient with the shipping…..I got the product in less than a week and everything came inside a folder with instructions for everyone of the activities and games (VERY ORGANIZED).

So, last Tuesday I got the opportunity to fall in love with this kit when I had to travel to New York with my Hyper Toddler for my Pre-operatory check out! (Yes, I am having another surgery in a few days).

I was running late to take the train just had to grab the folder and put it inside my purse. (Easy and fast!)

While we were waiting for the nurses and doctors, we had a BLAST playing and learning at the same time just with a activities!

First, we tried the Triangles/Not triangles activity! It comes already with a laminated sheet and some foam shapes to do the activity. (Sorry, I don’t have a pic of this one)

Second, we played sorting some shaped objects with their cards. There are 6 shape cards with 12 objects to match. This is great because she could match her shapes with real objects!

While we were waiting for a nurse in her office (Took a very long time), we played another game! This one consisted of rolling a cube with shapes on it and select that shapes form a pile and put it on your card. This one had 4 cards sheets so mommy had the opportunity to play, too! Good for learning how to have turns and review your shapes. Also, with you can make it a little challenge if you have to select your shapes by colors.

Another activity which was new for Pinky was learning her 3D shapes. We didn’t have any of those shapes….now we have them! The activity comes with 7 different shapes plus a laminated sheet with pictures to match each 3D shape. She was so into those 3D shapes learning their names.

 

Furthermore, there is another activity which consist of small homemade shape books with different shaped objects to paste on each page. We played with them but couldn’t glue them since mommy forgot the glue…..(as the crayons, too!…ok…I don’t carry glue on my purse, just scissors, markers, pens, crayons, something paint, paper) lol….Mary Poppins! jajaja

If you want to save time and have a really well prepared activity to do with your kids, go and check Time for Tots because they have LOTS of other learning kits!

I am very happy with mine and I’ll be looking to order another. Pinky really loved it, I can tell you because since that day she has been practicing her shapes every single day! That day, at my appointment check out  you couldn’t imagine there was a toddler around. She was so happy playing!

This week Pinky had lots of fun with her beloved dada! They love to have their own games, which mommy can’t get a part in them. They get crazy playing some kind of gymnastic activities, their favorite one: stand up on dada’s shoulders! You can hear them laughing and Pinky screaming: I am TALL! So far she complains that she can’t reach the ceiling!

I think she’s happy!

Also, we had our FIRST 2011 Family Dinner!

 

Finally, Daddy and Pinky went for their fun walk and visit their cousins! This is an activity that they Enjoy to have together…and mammy can get some quiet time for herself! yupiiiii!
